The multitude of colors,

Red, orange, yellow, blue, pink and more,

Were a wondrous sight to behold

The dark silhouettes of men coming home

Brought joy to the hearts of women and children

Their fathers, sons, brothers, and friends were coming home as last!

But many wept for there was none for them.

Boys now men, men now old, old and young both gone.

(Just a side note-I am Canadian but have strong British and French blood in me, hence the Union Jack)
